Getting the straight smile that you have always wanted doesn’t have to mean years of wearing uncomfortable metal braces. If you are looking for an effective, convenient, and inconspicuous alternative to improve the aesthetics of your smile, the Invisalign aligner system may be right for you. Invisalign aligners can correct a wide range of mild to moderate orthodontic issues without wires and brackets irritating your mouth or detracting from your smile. Call today to find out if you are a candidate for Invisalign in Thorndale.
Invisalign and traditional braces both rely on targeted pressure to gradually move teeth into the correct position. Instead of traditional wires and brackets, the Invisalign system uses a series of clear, plastic trays that look similar to the ones your dentist might use for teeth whitening. In addition to being more comfortable than braces—and virtually invisible—you can remove the aligners to eat and clean your teeth, which means no dietary restrictions and better oral hygiene.
To start the process, your dentist will take X-rays, impressions, and photos of your teeth that will be used to create your customized aligner trays. All you have to do is wear the aligners as directed, usually 20 to 22 hours a day, and switch to the next set of aligners in the series every couple of weeks. By the time you finish the last set of aligners, your teeth will be in the proper position. Most of our patients wear Invisalign retainers following their treatment to maintain the results.
Your Invisalign cost is determined by several factors, including the severity of your orthodontic issues, the length of your treatment, and whether your dental plan includes Invisalign insurance. We will discuss your final Invisalign cost in more detail once you and your dentist have developed a treatment plan. If you have dental insurance, all or part of your Invisalign cost may be covered. Our staff or your insurer can help you determine the extent of your Invisalign coverage. We also offer financing and payment options for qualified patients.
Treatment times, especially among teens, can vary from patient to patient. Most patients wear their aligners anywhere from 10 months to two years. The average for adults is one year. Major factors that influence treatment time include the severity of your dental issues and how well you comply with the treatment regimen. Your dentist will give you a better idea of your estimated treatment time following your consultation.
Invisalign dentists are general dentists or orthodontists who have completed additional training in the use of aligners to correct orthodontic issues. Our dentists have extensive experience using the Invisalign system and can help you achieve excellent results.
Invisalign is not appropriate for all patients and all situations. Orthodontic treatment for young children is complicated by the fact that their mouths are still developing, so traditional braces are typically the preferred treatment. It can also be difficult for children to wear and care for their aligners as directed, which can prolong treatment and add to the overall cost.
Aligners and braces are equally effective for patients with mild to moderate alignment and bite issues. If you have severe crowding, gaps, or alignment problems, traditional braces may provide faster and more satisfying results. During your consultation, our dentist will perform a comprehensive dental exam to determine if Invisalign is the best treatment option for you.
In general, aligners are much easier to maintain than traditional braces. You should clean your aligners daily using a manufacturer-approved cleaning system, which is available at our office, or by brushing and rinsing the aligner in cool or lukewarm water. You should never place your aligner in hot water since it could cause the plastic to warp. Although we do recommend avoiding chewing gum and tobacco products while wearing the aligners, there are no other food and beverage restrictions, so you can continue to eat your favorite foods. If you should accidentally damage your aligner, be sure to contact us right away for a replacement. The aligner will not place the correct amount of pressure on the teeth if it is warped or damaged in any way. During your treatment, you will need to see our dentist every four to six weeks to make sure your treatment is progressing as it should.
